Volunteering Stories: from Georgia to Baia Mare – by Eka

Hi, I am Eka from Georgia. I came to Baia Mare for 3 months. My role in the project is working for local organizations and some other activities as well.

My project

This is my second volunteering project but it is extremely different from the previous one because now I work mostly with kids. Every week I go to the two local organizations and prepare activities for the kids with different ages and backgrounds. Besides this, with the other Georgian volunteer, we make presentations about our country, culture, and traditions and at the same time, we get more information about Romanian couture and costumes.

Expectations and Reality

At the beginning, my expectations was quite different. I thought working with kids would be easy but actually, it was not. Especially when you work with kids in another country, you have to be more open for challenges and communication because they do not understand the English language and you do not know their language.

However, very soon I got along with the right and effective communication and preparing useful activities for them.

I hope at the end of the project I will be more aware and improved in term of communication with kids.

The volunteer is hosted by Team for Youth Association in project number 2022-1-RO01-ESC51-VTJ-000062337 (also called “Year2”), on a 3 months European Solidarity Corps project in Baia Mare.
