Dear Readers, about a month ago, I took the first step towards an experience I had been dreaming of for a long time and started volunteering and my project in Romania. A new country, new people, a different culture and most importantly, brand new experiences for myself…
Who am I?
I am Melike, 24 years old. I am from Turkey . One of my biggest passions in life is meeting different people and maturing myself by getting to know many cultures. I graduated from university last year and this period was exactly the experience I wanted.
Why volunteering?
Here, I not only contribute to people's lives, but also leave the culture I am used to and find myself in a place where I get to know myself again. At the same time, I try to look at the world with different eyes. But my mission here is to create general awareness about the
environment and sustainability. We have already done an activity on this subject. We prepared flower pots from plastic bottles with the children at the local Art High School in Baia Mare. It was an extremely educational and awareness-raising activity. Additionally , every
Wednesday , we support Littlefeet Association ( center that working with addiction peoples).
What are my first impressions?
It has been almost a month. I felt like I was supposed to be here for a long time and I did not experience any difficulties because the people here are completely supportive and kind. I made new friends from many different cultures. It is an incredible feeling. In general, I am in an environment of tolerance and respect. Of course, I sometimes experience difficulties and I overcome this situation with good collaboration.
In conclusion, this month I spent in Romania has already been one of the most special times of my life. Romania is a place that offers you many friendships, wonderful nature, new lifestyles, and lots of stories. I hope this article will inspire someone who wants to start volunteering.
