A festival blog from the perspective of two volunteers!
In Satu Mare, there is an event organized by local volunteers every year and that is the Festival of LA DAMBURI!
La Damburi means “On the hills” or something like that… This name comes from the festival area! The Festival is happening on a large scale green area which includes a skate park, a lot of green space and beautiful places to spend time…
As Team Four Youth volunteers, we were there to help the local volunteers arrange the festival area!
The Festival includes a lot of different music bands and DJs from different places… This year we had a band even from America! Thanks to the hard work of the local Satu Mare communities, these famous bands joining this festival! Especially in the evening, we are seeing impressive stage shows in La Damburi…
Also, you can find a lot of different little shops, little events at different times and places, and food/drink counters within a large-scale variation in this festival!
So… Then, what is the mission of the volunteers in this festival? Especially, what we did in Satu Mare as two foreign volunteers in there? Here is the answer for it:
We were at Satu Mare one day before the Festival and we joined a little meeting and met the other volunteers there… The next days were full for us either as fun and work…
We met every morning of these Festival days which were Friday and Saturday and started to arrange the festival area with the other volunteers, carried a few important stuff to around, and placed them in the proper spot for the visitors…
Also, we arranged some special events places like “Blind Date with a Book”… This concept was one of our favorites in this Festival:
The visitors come there and check the books from the shelves like a library… But all books are covered with paper to keep them hidden from the visitors… So, who wants to get a book from there, they should decide on the book without knowing which book is which… So this is the concept of the blind date with a book!
Also, we helped the visitors who asked us to help… But more important than that, we were there to inform the visitors about our organization and ESC projects… After finishing our jobs, we prepared our stand in a cool space to welcome the festival visitors… We were giving brochures and stickers to the visitors who visited our stand… These stickers and brochures were prepared by us and printed before came to Satu Mare… And I have to say visitors were really into our stickers :)). Also, they could find very useful info in our brochures about the organization and ESC projects…
With so on, we completed our two-and-a-half day in Satu Mare… Besides the festival, also we visited some local restaurants to try traditional foods. And also we went on a little city tour about the history of Satu Mare on our first day there…
It was really nice experience… Even though it was really tiring for us, the fun covered the exhausting!
