Year 3: Volunteer in Romania

Are you looking to volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps program? We are starting our third year from our strategic long-term plan and YOU can be part of it!

Help us achieve part of our vision and work together to improve the local community of Baia Mare, Romania.

Proposed activity period:

September 2024 – December 2024 (from 2 months to 4 months period)

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

The position currently welcomes volunteers for one of the main topics:

  1. Activity 1: (FULL)
  2. Activity 2 (FULL)
  3. Activity 3: Environmental actions – 1 volunteer will work on making our organization more “green” and sustainable, and will organize public activities focused on environmental awareness. Examples include clean walks, online awareness campaigns, workshops in high schools about recycling and nature protection, various city and outdoor games, and greening initiatives for public spaces.

After participating in these projects, the volunteer will gain a set of competences and skills (including “soft” and “life” skills) that will help them in their future. Additionally, they will have the chance to discover a new culture, meet new people, study a new language, and improve their communication skills in English.

The mobility program has distinct stages:

(a) During the first month, volunteers are in the accommodation phase (we call it ”orientation”). We get to know the public institutions and local partners, we also check the capacity and motivation of the volunteer. This period includes a gradual introduction to the work style and spaces of the local organization. The volunteers explore different methods of working with young people and digital platforms. They discover the local environment.

(b) The following months involve the active implementation of activities, constituting the project’s core. The volunteer (s) have to prepare, do and assess activities in the office, public spaces, and partner institutions (these can be highschools, museums and other organizations with similar profiles). They initiate proposals to the coordinator and provide information to local youth. They actively participate in ongoing activities, and can have a stronger role in the project’s three main topics. There is continuous evaluation and progress from the coordinator, but the volunteer becomes more independent and aware of its capacity and role.

(c) The final stage is all about measuring the impact, collecting and summarizing results from all activities, and completing the Youthpass certificate.

ACCOMMODATION, PAYMENT, FOOD, AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS:

Accommodation in rented flats is provided, where volunteers share spaces with others and have access to public transport, shops, and entertainment facilities. Equipped with WiFi, furniture, beds, bed sheets, cutlery, and toiletries, volunteers are responsible for maintaining and cleaning their flats. The project covers all expenses (gas, water, electricity and internet bill), including rent.

Volunteers receive 150 E per month for food. Reimbursement for local transportation during activities is available.

International travel expenses are reimbursed up to a limit. Volunteers are encouraged to opt for environmentally friendly travel, avoiding planes in alignment with our ongoing environmental strategy. Additional financial support and extended travel time to and from the project venue are provided for the green travel option.

A daily pocket money of 4 E is provided!

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY:

Logistic support is provided for the activities, and volunteers participate in nationally organized On Arrival Training and Mid-Term sessions. In addition, volunteers have scheduled Romanian language lessons and undergo short workshops and training on various topics to aid in their activity implementation. Importantly, all training utilizes non-formal education methods, tailored to the needs and capacity of the project team. The volunteer (s) are the ones that implement the activity – with an active role.

Support is extended by an organization from the volunteer’s home country in the role of sending/support organization.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE:
