Are you looking to volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps program? We are starting our fourth year from our strategic long-term plan and YOU can be part of it! Volunteer in Romania!
Help us achieve part of our vision and work together to help improve the local community of Baia Mare, Romania.
Proposed activity period:
Middle of March 2025 – End of November 2025 (from 2 months to 8 months mobility period)
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
The position currently welcomes volunteers for one of the main topics:
- Activity 1: ”Interculturality” Creating an open and tolerant society by: presentations of the volunteers’ country, meeting in schools and highschools about volunteering, language workshops, book & movie clubs, actions to provide support for marginalized communities, awareness raising campaigns on different topics and activities in public spaces connected to international days.
- Activity 2: ”Learnity + Digital Skills” Developing skills needed for young people in the upcoming European job market by: creating activities and workshops on writing CVs and motivation letters, role play interviews, workshops on digital skills, cybersecurity, fake news and other activities meant to boost the employability skills of youth from the local community.
- Activity 3: ”Environmental actions” by work on making our organization more “green” and sustainable, taking care of the organizations green space, organize public activities focused on environmental awareness. Examples include: clean walks, online awareness campaigns, workshops in high schools about recycling and nature protection, various city and outdoor games, and greening initiatives for public spaces.
After participating in these projects, the volunteer will gain a set of competences and skills (including “soft” and “life” skills) that will help them in their future. Additionally, they will have the chance to discover a new culture, meet new people, create activities on specific targets, study a new language, and improve their communication skills.
The mobility program has distinct stages:
(a) During the first month, volunteers are in the accommodation phase (we call it ”orientation”). We get to know the public institutions and local partners, we also check the capacity and motivation of the volunteer. This period includes a gradual introduction to the work style and spaces of the local organization. The volunteers explore different methods of working with young people and digital platforms. They discover the local environment and become more aware of the local needs.
(b) The following months involve the active implementation of activities, constituting the project’s core. The volunteer(s) have to prepare, do and assess activities in the office, public spaces, and partner institutions (these can be highschools, partner organizations, museums and other organizations with similar profiles). They initiate proposals of activities to the coordinator and provide information to local youth. They actively participate in ongoing activities, and can have a stronger role in the project’s three main topics. There is continuous evaluation and progress from the coordinator, and the volunteer becomes more independent and aware of its capacity and role. They take an active role in the activities proposed to them/ by them.
(c) The final stage is all about measuring the impact, collecting and summarizing results from all activities, and completing the Youthpass certificate.
ACCOMMODATION, PAYMENT, FOOD, AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS:
Accommodation in rented flats is provided, where volunteers share spaces with others and have access to public transport, shops, and entertainment facilities. Equipped with WiFi, furniture, beds, bed sheets, cutlery, and toiletries, volunteers are responsible for maintaining and cleaning their flats. The project covers all expenses (gas, water, electricity and internet bill), including the rent.
Volunteers receive 150 E per month for food. Reimbursement for local transportation during activities is available.
International travel expenses are reimbursed up to a limit. Volunteers are encouraged to opt for environmentally friendly travel, avoiding planes in alignment with our ongoing environmental strategy. Additional financial support and extended travel time to and from the project venue are provided for the green travel option.
Daily pocket money of 4 E is provided!
To be able to benefit from this the volunteers need to adhere to the philosophy of the organisation, the solidarity corps rules and regulations and to the internal hosting and activity rules of Team for Youth Association. Failure to do so will make them ineligible for taking part in the activities and in the project altogether.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY:
Logistic support is provided for the activities, and volunteers participate in nationally organized On Arrival Training (for mobilities 2 months up duration) and Mid-Term sessions (for mobilities 5 months up durations). In addition, volunteers have scheduled Romanian language lessons and undergo short workshops and training on various topics to aid in their activity implementation. Importantly, all training utilizes non-formal education methods, tailored to the needs and capacity of the project team. The volunteer(s) are the ones that implement the activity – with an active role.
Support is extended by an organization from the volunteer’s home country in the role of sending/support organization.
Please do not join the project if you are just looking to: fix your life situation, earn extra money, travel for free, take a vacation or improve your English. We strongly consider there are better opportunities to do so than joining a EU Solidarity Corps project.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE:
The ideal profile of the volunteers we are looking for, includes:
- Responsible individuals with an open mind, communicative, friendly, and with a positive attitude and expressing interest in any of the project’s topics (Activity 1, 2, or 3, or all).
